of Heinrich’s and Rosa’s
Attic Loft in Naumburg
The “Gründerzeit” villa, built in 1898, was purchased on August 27, 1934, by Heinrich Sonnenschein (1866–1956) and Rosa Sonnenschein (1873–1936) as a retirement residence. Heinrich had previously studied at the newly founded Leipzig Graduate School of Management (HHL), acquiring essential business fundamentals. In 1902, with a small starting capital, he acquired the machine factory for sorting cylinders and sorting machines, along with all supplies, items, and inventory for 4,930 Marks.
Business was slow until the 1920s when exports to America finally brought commercial success. After more than 30 industrious years in their machine factory the entrepreneurial couple intended to retire in beautiful Naumburg. However, the early death of his beloved wife Rosa and the societal changes in Germany at the time disrupted all these plans.
Heinrich spent his later years in seclusion in the rooms of the present-day attic apartment and passed away at the age of 90. The house has been in the family’s possession for 89 years, spanning four generations, despite tumultuous times. Today, we are pleased to host guests in our home and guide it into the future.
